In an announcement made by Sony last week, the XCL-5000 Black/White 5 Mega Pixel Industrial Camera is scheduled to be discontinued as of September 2008.
In its place, Sony is recommending the XCL-5005 (monochrome) or XCL-5005CR (color) ultra high resolution 5 mega pixel PoCL industrial cameras.
These two cameras adopt the AIA’s PoCL standard (Power Over Camera Link) and feature autoselectable power from a PoCL connector or an EIAJ connector for backward compatibility with the XCL-5000. The XCL-5005 utilizes the same CCD sensor with the XCL-5000 and is compatible with the same frame grabbers as the XCL-5000.
